Mid-Life transition is not necessarily associated with feeling empowered in this culture, especially for women. However, according to Dr. Christiane Northrup in "The Wisdom of Menopause," mid-life can be a potent time of change for women--for the better!
On September 18, I will begin teaching a four-part class in which we'll delve into the menopause experience, with an eye to owning this process and time, free from our cultural biases and scripts. Additional classes take place October 23, November 6 and November 20. All classes take place from 6-7:30 pm, at As You Like It: The Pleasure Shop, 1165 W. 11th Avenue.) Cost is: $15 in advance or $20 at the door, or $55 for the series if paid in full before September 18.
Open to women who want to “write their own script” for their menopause experience, I will guide participants through an exploration of menopause issues and concerns, with the intention that each participant will develop her own unique strategy for managing her changing body and sexual responses and expression. Classes will be a dynamic combination of presented information, group discussions, time for personal reflection and small group interactions. While participants are welcome to sign up for individual sessions, participation in all sessions is recommended to build group cohesion and support.
Topics will include libido/desire, lubrication/dryness concerns, managing partner concerns/expectations, hormone replacement pros and cons, the effectiveness of herbal products, handling irritating symptoms such as night sweats, hot flashes and feeling unattractive, and more. Participants are asked to bring a notebook for journaling, a sense of humor, and open minds and hearts!
Take charge of your menopause experience and step into empowerment!
